EC Proposes Protection Against Flawed Softwares

there has been an ongoing debate in the software community as to make developers liable to the quality of products they make.
this came after the European Commission (EC) proposed this;

“…extending the principles of consumer protection rules to cover licensing agreements of products like software downloaded for virus protection, games or other licensed content… Licensing should guarantee consumers the same basic rights as when they purchase a good: the right to get a product that works with fair commercial conditions.”

what this means is that the Software community (this includes us IT PINOYs) should be more accountable for our software’s. Slashdot posted a good question: “The idea of making Microsoft pay for the billions of dollars of damage caused by flaws in its products is certainly attractive, but where would this idea leave free software coders?”
