It took almost a century but finally an Olympic gold for the Philippines! Hidilyn Diaz set two Olympic records on her way to winning the women’s 55kg, bringing the Philippines its first ever gold medal in Olympic history.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics officially started! The ceremony however was odd as it didn’t bring the usual razzmatazz of past Olympiad openings – mainly due to an empty stadium but more so because Japan is still battling a recent spike of COVID 19 cases.
The performances felt distant, even the torch relay looked like they didn’t practice, but the usual Olympics motto “Stronger, Higher, Faster” appended with the word “Together” timely tells us all that we can learn to live and survive this pandemic together. The fact the organizers still pushed through with the events just shows how resilient humankind is.
The fireworks were still amazing!
John Lennon’s “Imagine” playing along the 1800+ flying drones that formed a globe was just breath-taking.
But the Olympics pictogram performance was just outrageous and somehow a homage to those funny Japanese shows 🙂
The event will run through July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo, Japan. Check out more olympics.com.
Paracord Bracelets for “Operation Gratitude” In a time of social distancing you can still commemorate the US Memorial Day and support our troop, by creating paracord bracelets, right at the comfort of your homes. 111 more words
To honor Military Appreciation Month, “Operation Gratitude” offers a way for YOU to help, when Americans everywhere take pause to express appreciation to service members and their families.
HOW CAN A PARACORD “SURVIVAL” BRACELET BE USED?
All who serve use paracord, which gets its name from parachute cord and can hold up to 550 lbs. of weight. The bracelet provides 7.5 feet of cord in an emergency. Paracord “Survival” Bracelets can be used to:
Secure camouflage nets to trees or vehicles
Build a makeshift shelter
Extend a security strap or rope to reach and haul heavy objects
Create a harness to extract an injured person from a bad location
Make a sling or splint
And those are just a few of the ways to use the full paracord! Cut the paracord and remove the 7 to 9 individual nylon strands inside it (the “guts”) and now you have finer strong string to use as:
Sewing thread to repair gear
Emergency sutures to close a wound
Trip line to secure an area
Our hope is to include one Paracord “Survival” Bracelet in each of our Deployed Troop Care Packages, and in the First Responder and Recruit Graduate Care Pouches.
