Oracle Academy opens in RP

Oracle – the giant enterprise I.T. company just partnered with AMA Eduction Systems by providing technical skills training in Oracle enterprise solutions to it’s students.

“These are all preparations to enhance world-class ICT skills in the Philippines for a 21st century workforce,” Oracle Philippines Managing Director Ryan Guadalquiver said.

the Oracle Academy courses will be offered in 22 AMAES schools this year including the main campus in Quezon City, Makati, Pasig, Las Piñas, Caloocan, East Rizal (Antipolo City), Davao, Fairview (Quezon City), Biñan (Laguna), Cavite, Sta. Cruz (Laguna), Calamba (Laguna), Lucena (Quezon), Tarlac, Lipa (Batangas), Santiago (Isabela), Olongapo (Zambales), Batangas, Bacolod (Negros Occidental), and Cagayan de Oro.

Oracle Buys Sun

Oracle Corp. has just announced that it will acquire it’s rival, Sun Microsystems for $9.50/share or about $7.4Bil.

“This combination is a natural evolution of our relationship and will be an industry-defining event,” Sun’s co-founder and CEO Scott McNealy said.

this came about after the talks between IBM (Oracle’s competitor) and Sun failed to materialize around two weeks ago.

what this means is that Oracle has now also obtained Sun’s popular MySQL database, which has become popular with companies expanding their operations. i’m afraid this would mean, “bye bye MySQL! hello chubby java!” 😦
